A Very Harry Thursday Thirteen (no spoilers, I promise)

I wonder how many people are doing this today? A lot, I suspect. First, though, a couple of articles (which may have spoilers in them):

My biggest complaint has been that the epilogue is less than whole (I know, how can it be?). JK Rowling answers some questions, here.

Also, Mistress Matisse on why kinksters love Potter. Good stuff.

Okay, on to TT

Thirteen Things I love about Potter

1. Umbridge. A villain with no apology or explanation, she gives me bigger willies than Voldemort.
2. Detail. That she knows things that didn’t go in the books, that this world lives for her.
3. A lack of punch pulling. From the very first moment living under the stairs to Sirius, Dumbledore, etc. She makes it real, doesn’t hold hands.
4. Hermione. Dude–she’s so kick-ass smart, and capable, and saves the boys ALL THE TIME.
5. A little rule breaking is okay, but morals are morals.
6. Snape. Just. So. Hot.
7. The message that no one is better than any one else based on status or species. Heh.
8. The urban fantasy aspect–who didn’t imagine there was magic afoot as a kid?
9. The depth of character. Not everyone is two-D like some YA books I’ve read (though, some are).
10. The way she writes teenagers as though she hasn’t forgotten what it was like to be one.
11. Luna Lovegood. Just love her.
12. That everyone has an opportunity to be their best, their bravest, in a difficult moment. And that some don’t take that opportunity.
13. You know what? Magic is cool.

I almost did 13 fake spoilers like “the Hermione/Snape spanking stories are true!” and “Harry is gay!” But that would have been disturbing. Tempting, but disturbing.

So far, you’re the first HPTT I’ve come upon. Congratulations! You’re unique. LOL!

  2. Paige Tyler

Great list! My hubby and both love Harry Potter!

    *hugs*

    My TT is at http://paigetylertheauthor.blogspot.com/

  3. JAC

Fabulous list! I just finished the book this morning and all I can say is wow.

  4. Heather

Neat list, and I’m sure many will thank you for not posting spoilers. I confess I’ve not read any of the books, but I *have* seen the first four movies. Haven’t made it to #5 yet.

  5. Jennifer

I loved your 13. I think one of my favorite “scenes” of the books was when Umbridge was making Harry write lines with her special quill. That was just brilliant.

My 13 this week is also about HP. 13 Great HP Characters.

  6. Toni Andrews

    Also a big Snape fan!

  7. Babe

Oh yeah, Snape. yum. I like the movies, but the books leave me cold. I’m not keen on the way she uses language, but the stories are imaginative. :-)

  8. Christine d'Abo

Great list! I love the movies, but I haven’t read the books yet. Now that they are all out, I can start!

  9. Shelley Munro

I have my copy but haven’t read it yet. Kickass is good. I love Hermione.

  10. Jennifer SHirk

Ugh! I HAVE to read a Harry Potter book. I’m so out of the loop.

  11. Robin L. Rotham

I don’t know why Snape is so damn attractive. I mean, he’s NOT! And yet, he is…

  12. Debbie Mumford

Thanks for no spoilers! I’m right SMACK in the middle of it!

  13. Eliza Gayle

I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet but I had a great time at a Potter party last Friday night.
