There’s a Nightmare in my Closet

Not really, but I really love that book.

I broke 10K this morning and that was good. This universe has gotten so large it is starting to feel unwieldy and real, which is keen. I really wish I had one note on my laptop, because all my notes are on the desktop, but I’m stuck mostly on the laptop for a while. Doh! No matter where I save something, I always need it on the other ‘puter. Rats.

This book is long, and the scenes are longer than I usually write. My chapters are actually winding up shorter than usual because the scenes are running so long. I think (I like to tell myself, anyway) that this means I’m becoming a more comfortable writer. I tend to make the opposite mistake of most newbs–I write outline-style rather than really trying to flesh out descriptions. So where most people I know are cutting words out I’m struggling to add them. Longer scenes mean that I’m attacking that problem head on. At least, I hope so :) I’m just amazed when the scene STILL ISN’T OVER at 1500 or 2000 words, given my usual writing patterns. So, I’m cautiously optimistic about the quality of this novel. Of course, this is only chapter three so…yeah. Also, they totally are not jumping in the sack anytime soon, brats. I would love to write some sex, because that is always good for the word count. Stupid people, needing to get to know each other and shit.

All and all, I’m pleased about the novel! That is a good feeling, especially because I know the “this novel sucks” feeling is just around the corner, LOL. I hope to get an excerpt up sometime, but for now just bask in my 10K glory ;)
