Book Year in Review

Some of you know I embarked on an ambitious adventure to read 150 books this year. I didn’t make it–but I didn’t do too badly, actually. I would say I ended up around 100 books read this year, and my failure to make the goal was more about lack of remembering to record the books I read than anything else, LOL. But I’m quite pleased with the reading I did this year, and I hope to keep up the numbers next year. And perhaps also remember to write them down…

I wanted to list some of my favorite books of the year, though, because I always appreciate a recommendation, myself. Note: not all of these came out in 2007–some of them were new to me, not new to the world. So in no particular order, my faves of ‘07:

–Old Man’s War and The Ghost Brigades, John Scalzi. I’m just sort of floored by how much I enjoyed these books when I’m quite picky about my scifi. And these catch you and don’t let go, the perfect blend of story and high tech for a quick and energetic read. Can’t wait for the last one to come out in paperback.

–The Vampire Queen’s Servant, Joey Hill. There is nothing deep to say about this book. It was HAWT.

–The Grail King, Joy Nash. I don’t read a lot of historical romance, and this one was just fantastic. More proof genre boxing is not a good thing to do to yourself.

–Dirty and Broken, both by Megan Hart. These books are what erotic fiction should be, without apology or pandering.

–Heart Shaped Box, Joe Hill. You know, I didn’t like The Cell as much as I liked this one. Just sayin’.

–Kushiel’s Justice, Jacqueline Carey. I’m like some kind of sycophantic fan girl monster with these books. And they just get better, too. Next one comes out in June, sigh.

–Succubus Blues, Richelle Mead. Loved Georgina, loved the sweetness and the humor in this novel.

–Threat of Darkness and Thrice United, Lauren Dane. My friend Lauren has like 100 releases a month, so it is really hard to pick one or two to focus on. I really enjoy her menage novels, great story and hawt men, nothing wrong with that!

–The Gunslinger Born, Peter David et. al. Dude, these are so…wah! Loved them, especially all the back story they put at the end. I’m still geeking over the Merlin stories.

–Dragon Rider, Cornelia Funke. I have to admit, I love this book but I loved it more because Brendan Fraiser did the performance on CD and it was fantastic. Inkheart was great, too.

So yeah, these are a smattering of my favorites, the ones I’m still thinking about now, months later. Hope you find something on there to tickle your fancy!
