Year in Review v. 3.0
I did this one last year, and the year before.
1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
I made money for writing. Enough to say I actually made it. I got my very first office (day job related). I got my nose pierced. I wrote most of a sequel to a novel I wrote last year. I made the big decision(tm) to pursue writing as a job, not a fun part time hobby (that still kind of freaks me out).
2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. I hope to continue toward my goals and put stuff off less.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
*thinks* I don’t think so.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, but he lived a very long and good life so it is more of a happy thing.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, unless you count Disneyland which is kind of a world unto itself. (holy crap, that was last year’s answer. And it can be next year’s, too. I think I have a problem…)
6. What would you like to have in 2008 which you lacked in 2007?
My husband’s job to ease up.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched in your memory, and why?
Geeze, I dunno. May, June, November–all release dates
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Setting boundaries with myself and others.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Sigh. Lack of patience wins three years in a row! Maybe I should start making new year’s resolutions. *I have to say that since October I’ve found a lot more patience than usual. Turns out, I have it within me. Who knew?
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had that horrible leg injury over the summer but that is all healed now, and my weird nose piercing incidents have cleared up as well. I did get sick, because my children are petri dishes. I’m sick right now, even. But not too bad.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hey, it WAS the little potty this year, just barely LOL.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friends who made brave changes or set foot on brave paths (ianmcorvidae, for example, and desertbell who is a much better mom than she thinks, and others). My Wicked sisters and my fantastic beta reader Veronica who helped me see some ways to fix up Kiara, my fantastic writing mentor Lauren who introduced me to her agent, my other writing friends and crit folks and mentors who are always supportive and sweet.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The Democratic Congress. Although disappointed is more the right word.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage, the van, the Starbux. Heh.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting nominated for an Eppie, celebrating Yule, releasing Triple X, all the great reviews I got and even better, the folks who wrote to tell me they appreciated my stories. That is like legal drugs.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
The Rainbow Connection
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
Happier, neither, neither
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spending fun time with my kids.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Waiting for things to happen to make things happen. I don’t have to wait.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Um, too late for this one, but we spent it with family again.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007? I always fall deeper in love with my husband as I watch him and us grow together. And my children proved even more interesting this year than last. And that is a good thing.
22. What was your favorite new TV program?
Chuck! I love Chuck.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t hate.
24. What was the best book you read? You and I both know I can’t answer this question, so I’ll refer you to my book year in review post.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
(OMG) Justin Timberlake. I will collect my badge and final paycheck, because I’m fired, I know. But I LUV him.
26. What did you want and get?
More peace in my soul, largely thanks to some spiritual work.
27. What did you want and not get?
More time with my husband.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Stardust
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old did you turn?
I got my nose pierced and saw Harry Potter, turned 29 (the fake age, LOL).
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More time with my husband. Is there an echo in here?
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Hey, look at all these cute clothes. I should try putting outfits together.
32. What kept you sane? Meditation, mostly, and good books.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
This year? Probably Johnny Depp. Every year? Johnny Depp. Yeah.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Equal marriage rights wins again!
35. Whom did you miss?
CAT! I miss Cat. I really miss Cat, still.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
My crit group folks are awesome and give excellent advice–and they also tell great stories. Does Buffy Sommers count?
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
When you know a certain thing works, do it. This seems simple, but it is not.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“You can’t take the sky from me.”
–Firefly Theme
and
“What was once juvenileish, is grown up and stylish;
You’re close to your dream…”
“Life’s like a movie, write your own ending;
Keep believing, keep pretending…”
–The Muppet Movie grand finale
