All romance, all week (videos xposted to Wicked Whispers)
More on romantic scenes. I’m trying to figure out what it is about a certain romantic scene that really works for me. I think it has to do with vulnerability. In movies and books that jump to mind when I think of romance, in each of them one person is showing a depth of character, taking a risk. You might say he/she is ripping his/her heart out and handing it to the other person, who may or may not accept. That is what I was trying to convey in the scene yesterday–both people have so much to say, but neither of them can safely express how they feel. Beautiful tension.
In real life, love is a bit less dramatic, at least in my experience. Love has a lot more to do with doing the extra dishes or getting up early to take the kids to school than roses and unexpected trips to Mexico. Real life love is wonderful, too, but sometimes it is awfully fun to fall into a fantasy where love is all about the “grand gesture.”
So here are some romantic scenes that trip my trigger in the vulnerability and grandiosity department:
I’m fairly sure this moment cemented my sexuality as it is today. I’ll leave that unexplained *weg*
Aw. Just aw. What girl of the 80’s didn’t secretly wish this would happen to her?
I loved this moment so much I put the song on my wedding CD
So, all three of these scenes are distinct in that the man is putting himself on the line. That isn’t the only way to do things, of course. Sadly, when I went to look for scenes of women taking the risk, all I found were music videos set to clips of the shows or movies I wanted. Sniff. Anyway, I know there are some Buffy scenes where she takes the romantic lead, and others, too. I did find one sweet real life video of a woman proposing to her boyfriend, that was cute! Anyone have any recommendations (for “girl on top” romance)? I’ll add them here!
(I also wanted to add a Spike/Buffy moment, because dude gets his soul back for her, and that is hawt, but sadly all I could find were music videos of them, also. Bah.)
