Busy Work
Sometimes I feel like that’s all I do anymore–that stuff the substitutes gave you to keep you busy waiting for the teacher to come back so you could do your real work. I’m not sure what my real work is, but I know I’m often busy with doing this that and the other, nothing ever feels finished or useful.
Probably doesn’t help that I had a really rough day yesterday, full of endings and goodbyes (some not so bad, some very sad). I even missed my last “ending” event of the night, ianmcorvidae’s graduation. Congrats, Ian!! Great things await, I have no doubt.
In better news, I seem to be feeling more comfortable with writing again, and I spent a lot of time yesterday morning working on Maya. I didn’t get a lot of new stuff written, but I rearranged the big climax scene (not that kind, pervs) and I know I need to expand it now. Yay for figuring stuff out.
Now I’m home with the kiddos who have a random day off (and NO, we’re not done with the school year yet! One more week!) Yesterday we signed up for the library’s summer reading program–here they get some cute little prizes and a ticket to a baseball game if they read for 24 hours. For an extra 6 hours, they get a free book. This year, there is an adult version, which in some ways is very sad–why do grown ups need incentive to read?! But even so, if I make my self-set goal I get a 5 dollar gift certificate to a local used bookstore, and who am I to turn that down? I set the same goal as the kids, 24 hours in two months, because it seemed only fair. I offered to race with my older kid, but he refused, the big chicken
I started with a couple of books in addition to the ones I’m already reading which are longer term and slower going. I picked up a book by Tabitha King that is a fast, neat and creepy read (I didn’t know she did horror type stuff). I’m also listening to a YA on mp3 called Chicks With Sticks, it’s a Purl Thing. It isn’t quite crochet, but I can crochet while I listen, thus killing two hobby birds with one stone! I hope to add to my librarything finished book list, at the very least!
Soon we’re off to Chick-Fil-A for a free kid’s meal courtesy of the library, woot, so we’ll at least be well fed and read, if not totally accomplished this summer lol.
