The future, slightly

I’m setting the new Jason Bell story in the slight future, only about sixty years or so.  I’m pondering how things might change.

I’ve decided that most plastic will have been replaced with more reusable and environmentally friendly materials like biological resins.  While paper still exists, in the form of old books and boxes, most people don’t use it.  They’ve traded in their paper for digital forms of data.  This might be a bit self-serving, since I write ebooks.

I’m not sure what transportation will look like.  I’m not sold on the flying car as a viable option, but certainly electric vehicles.  Instead of gas stations, there will be places to trade your dead batteries for live ones.

I do not know what food/space travel/fashion will be yet.  It might not matter, because the setting moves pretty quickly to Jason’s “fictional” universe (I mean, is it REALLY fiction?)

Please note, my paper will still have square corners.  No octagonal paper over here, thankyouverymuch.

In any case, planning for the slight future is more research intensive than I realized.  Is there any story that does not require research?  I’m starting to think that answer is a fat no.  Sigh.
